On Friday December 1st, 2017, the ACS Savannah River local section and the AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers) hosted a joint Holiday Dinner Meeting at Oliviana’s in Augusta, Georgia.
To continue the yearly tradition, awards and thanks were given to the 37 society members, guests, and office members in attendance.
Maria Kriz was presented a plaque to thank her for her time and dedication to the society as Chair for 2017, Katie Heroux was presented with an ACS pin to also thank her for her time and support as Past Chair for the section, Paul Beaumont was acknowledged and applauded for his willingness to support the section this upcoming 2018 as the new Chair-Elect, and the winner of the 2018 Creech Award, Mrs. Anita Gangwani from Evans High School, Evans, GA.
Some great YCC successes for the year were also presented on behalf of Co-Chair, Tam Truong, to include the ChemLuminary Award and Kaitlin Lawrence as the new co-chair for 2018.
Guests who guessed the weight of holiday themed items present closest to the actual analytical weight won prizes to include coasters, cutting board, and coffee mugs containing elements from the periodic table and a science themed wine bottle.
Society themed gifts to include AIChE water bottles and ACS themed coasters were given out as well from a pool of attendees’ names.
To honor the theme of the 2017 Holiday Dinner Meeting, “Chemis-TREE”, members who donated received chemistry themed tree ornaments to take home with a choice of Holmium “Ho” santas, beakers, flasks, and laboratory chemistry trees.
From this event, a total of $153 was collected for the Golden Harvest and several toys to support the Toys 4 Tots fundraiser. From the great success, the theme may continue to succeed in future years.
Thanks to the entire committee, guests, and supporters, it was a successful dinner meeting and a wonderful year.
