YCC Chemistry at the Movies

YCC celebrated the Oscars by hosting “Chemistry at the Movies” at the Aiken County Public Library.

Volunteers guided children ages 7-11 through experiments on the chemistry of special effects, including creating fog from dry ice, fake snow from the super absorbent sodium polyacrylate, and a foaming monster’s mouth from the reaction of baking soda and vinegar.

Children also created their own short story by choosing one of 5 different scenes and acting it out in front a green screen.

The videos were edited with their selected scenes and the short clips were sent to the parents as a keepsake from this event.
