About the event

While 75 landmarks have been dedicated in the program since ACS established it in 1992, this will be the first NHCL in South Carolina. The Savannah River Site is being recognized for ‘Pu-238 Production for Space Exploration’.

Please join us for an evening of music, food, and beverages, including a specially brewed ‘Pu Porter’ from the Aiken Brewing Company. ACS President, Professor Peter Dorhout will make the dedication, which will be accepted by Dr. Vahid Majidi, Director, Savannah River National Laboratory, on behalf of the Savannah River Site. A specially prepared Landmark brochure will be available at the event.

The mission of the NHCL program is to enhance public appreciation for the contributions of the chemical sciences to modern life in the United States and to encourage a sense of pride in their practitioners for chemistry’s rich history. The program does this by recognizing seminal achievements in the chemical sciences, recording their histories, and providing information and resources about Landmark achievements.
